I could assert that almost everyone knows what the Internet is, but they don't know what it really is, what its benefit is, and whether it has harms — and they cannot tell the difference between the Internet and the applications used on it. So today we take you on a quick and simple tour of the Internet.

The Internet is a communications network that connects the whole world together; through it, individuals and companies communicate and data is transferred according to the speed of the line in the country. There are also other applications that are used with the Internet (or the "net"), like Facebook and other social media sites that a person cannot access unless they have the net.

Most people's use of the net does not go beyond social networks and watching videos. Some others add searching through the famous search engine Google. And others benefit from free educational websites or cultural ones. We will not address comparing Arab countries with Western ones.

Harms of the Internet

The harms of the Internet may lie in addiction to social networks and spending long hours on them without coming out with any benefit — or even promoting a product or website. Currently there are many websites that explain how to get money or earn from the Internet.

Among the harms too is people not understanding you if you don't reply to their messages right away, and this may lead to disputes between friends over an unjustified cause as well! Among the harms is that people show off what they have without the least consideration for other people — whether they have the same things or not. And some people fabricate facts about themselves, which may lead to problems that could result in fraud and deceiving people.

Benefits of the Internet

The Internet has many benefits, but caution is needed regarding how it is used, the websites browsed, and the purpose behind them. Before going online, one should protect oneself with some antivirus programs that fight the viruses attacking computers or websites.

Among the benefits of the Internet is making it easier to buy something not available in the country's market — and it may also be at a better price. Also, if you want to do freelance work, you can do freelance work. For people in need of work, there are many websites, articles and videos that explain the whole how-to. Among the positives is that a person can study from home and attend the finest universities, and be examined on the information they studied; all they have to do is commit to the system.

This article is a miniature overview of the Internet, its harms and benefits. Additions will be made later according to readers' comments.
